Grant Application

Qualified 501 (C)3 non-profit organizations seeking grants from the Tuscaloosa Disaster Relief Fund must complete the pdf grant application. CLICK HERE to download the interactive application form and follow the instructions listed.  

PLEASE NOTE: Grant applications will be reviewed each month by the Allocations Committee.  However, grant applications must be recieved by the 10th of each month to be considered during that month.

GRANT APPLICATION
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Grants shall only be made to qualified charitable organizations meeting all of the following qualifications:

  1. A organization with a valid Federal Tax ID number and an IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter stating that it is a charitable organization and is not a private foundation.
  2. An organization with a board of directors.
  3. An organization that operates under sound financial principles and obtains annual financial audits performed by a certified public accountant (for those organizations requesting more than $10,000). For organizations requesting a one-time allocation of $10,000 or less, a record of sound financial responsibility must be evident along with a copy of a previous year review, compilation, or tax returns for the past two consecutive years for qualification and consideration. An organization that has an established process for determining the needs of clients to ensure that funds and services are appropriately distributed according to standards of the Fund.
  4. An organization that demonstrates the expertise and experience necessary to provide the assistance and services included in the grant request.

Grants shall not be made directly to:

  • Individuals or on behalf of a specific individual.
  • Business entities.
  • Non-U.S. organizations in foreign countries (grants may be made to U.S. organizations that operate in foreign countries, provided that these organizations are qualified charitable organizations also operating within the boundaries of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama and otherwise meet the applicant requirements.

Grants shall not be used to:

  • Pay membership dues, tickets to fundraising events, or fees for any such purposes.
  • Fulfill pledges or pre-existing obligations of the Applicant or others.
  • Provide benefits (whether financial or otherwise) to fund advisors or their families in return for a grant.
  • Duplicate existing services unless they serve a population not already being served.
  • Pay normal operating expenses unrelated to storm relief efforts and required purposes set out for the Fund.
  • Cover program expenses of Applicant or others that occur on a regular basis (e.g. annual workshop series, regularly needed medical equipment or patient care unrelated to the storm relief efforts)
  • Cover regularly supported activities of Applicant or other fundraising organizations.
  • Duplicate reimbursements or payments received from other entities for the services included in the grant request.
  • Influence legislation or participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.
  • Such other purposes as the members of the Allocations Committee of the Fund shall determine do not provide for basic human services and recovery efforts in the Tuscaloosa community and surrounding areas within the boundaries of Tuscaloosa County necessitated by the tornados of April 2011.

    I work with Eagle’s Wings, Inc., a not for profit organization which is developing a housing community for adults with developmental disabilities. The facility is off Hwy 82 between Coker and Buhl. At present a vocational building is under construction and we have received a USDA grant for two greenhouses. Our clients will live in homes on the site in the future.

    We would like to make application for a community safe room on site. Do you have money for construction of a community safe room? If so, how do I go about applying ?

      Jane, make sure you read all the guidelines above for applying to receive grant money and if you do, you can download the pdf grant application above, fill out a digital copy and email it to the address on the application, and bring a physical copy to the Chamber of Commerce in Tuscaloosa. Applications are reviewed the 10th of every month.
